Alumni File: Our Newsletter for Cathedral High School and Grade School

October 2017

Reunions for alumni of Cathedral High School and Cathedral Grade School are held several times a year. The Development Office will assist by providing data for alumni contact. All alumni are encouraged and welcomed back to the campus, as they are forever "Cathedral Cardinals."

Reunions may be held in the Parish Center and there is no rental fee for reunion events. Call for a tour of the Parish Center.

Reunion information is published in the Cathedral Chimes.

Since the founding of Saint Cecilia Cathedral Parish in 1888, the spirit of philanthropy has been a part of our parish. Our Cathedral High School and Saint Cecilia Cathedral Grade School alumni understand the importance of a Catholic education. While being educated on the campus of Cathedral there were important skills they learned: critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to consider new ideas on one's own, thus becoming a lifelong learner. Cathedral alumni will tell you that those skills, along with their Dominican based education, have prepared them for just about anything. An alumni gift demonstrates your confidence in your Cathedral education, and your dedication to ensuring the legacy of excellence in Catholic education as it passes on to the next generation of Cathedral students. Make a gift now with the "Click Here to Donate Now" button or contact the Development and Alumni Relations office at (402) 551-2313.

The Saint Cecilia Parish Center is located in the former Cathedral High School, now renamed the “Monsignor Ernest Graham Building.” It is a welcoming space with a beautiful view out onto the historic Gold Coast Neighborhood. Centrally located, just off the interstate, close to downtown businesses, and both universities, our parish/conference center is equipped with everything you need for your next reunion for Saint Cecilia Cathedral Grade School or Cathedral High graduates.

The dining room can comfortably seat 150 at round tables. The conference room can seat 25 at tables/40 auditorium style seating. Both rooms are internet access ready with large screens for AV viewing. State of the art equipment, secure entrances and a comfortable environment make our conference center an excellent facility.

Parking and handicap access at Burt Street, with an inclined walkway from street level, and a handicap accessible ramp at main entrance provide for easy access.

All buildings on the Cathedral campus are tobacco free.

There is no rental fee charge for Cathedral High or Saint Cecilia Cathedral Grade School reunion classes to hold reunion events in the parish center.

The Parish Center street address is 3900 Webster Street. All reunion inquiries should be directed to the Development/Alumni Relations office at 402-551-2313.

LAST summer was a great season filled with numerous reunions for our Cathedral High classes. Each group had its own style. There have been other reunion gatherings off campus, a few at Mama’s Pizza, sometimes known as “Cathedral West”. Several hundred of our alumni have been drawn together to meet with their Cathedral classmates this year. Even more gathered for CathedralFest!

The organizers for the reunion events have proven to be organized, creative, loyal and great fun. They have offered opportunities such as golf outings, cocktail parties, special Mass gatherings, guests of honor such as former teachers and priests, and so much more. One of the alumni reunion groups went so far as to invite their competition from Holy Name and Creighton Prep to attend. After years of competition on turf and on the basketball court, they have remained life-long friends.

Those alumni who are veterans have been recognized by their peers for their gracious  generosity in defending our country. Class year books, photo albums, well-loved football uniforms and cheerleader outfits have been shared with others and then donated to the Cathedral archives, to be brought out at next year’s festivities.

Those alumni who have already gone on to the big reunion in the sky have been remembered by each class in a special way, with some tears and many prayers.

The years have proven kind to our alumni, as they meet and greet each other, and spend time talking and catching up. While there is often music from their high school years played in the background of these reunion events, the attendees often request that the volume of the music be turned down, as they are indeed hanging on every word being said at these gatherings. These reunion days have been poignant and sweet.

Our alumni of Cathedral High School and Saint Cecilia Cathedral Grade School play a vital role in the past, the present and the future of Saint Cecilia Cathedral Parish, as well as our community. Students who have gone on to make a difference in the world have played their part in sharing the Dominican tradition of education, part of which is to not only learn for the sake of learning, but to in turn, share with others what they have learned. It is a proud tradition, one we all respect and are honored to celebrate.

We are grateful to our patron, Saint Cecilia, for her guiding hand in all of these gatherings. So here’s to our alumni, their history, the ways they make the world better place, and the path they set for those alumni still to come. Always know that you will have a place to call home. May the good Lord Bless You and Keep You Always. Go Cardinals!
