The U.S. Department of Education named Saint Cecilia Cathedral Grade School a winner of the 2007 Blue Ribbon School Award. |
|
Saint Cecilia Grade School was the 2007 winner of the Creative Ticket Award from the Nebraska Arts Council and the Kennedy Center, providing an artist-in-residence experience for our students, and recognizing our commitment to all forms of arts education. |
|
In 2007, our graduates earned the Duchesne Prize, and were named Central High School Student of the Year, North High School Outstanding Sophomore, Roncalli Catholic High School Salutatorian, Duchesne Academy Valedictorian, and Skutt Catholic High School Valedictorian.
Ninety-four graduates on the honor rolls of 9 area high schools in Spring of 2007 were graduates of Saint Cecilia Grade School. |

Our students placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and had seven honorable mentions in the 2007 Neighborhood Center for Greater Omaha 3rd Annual Youth Art Auction and Contest.
Two of the eleven winners of the 2007 Heartland Heroes Essay Contest were from Saint Cecilia Grade School. More than 800 entries were received. |

In the 2008 Metropolitan Science and Engineering Fair:
Amanda Dietsch received the award for the Best Engineering Related Project by a Female Participant from the Society of Women Engineers.
Daniel Elliston received a medal and certificate from the Office of Naval Research for Best of Fair.
Emma Turbes received 2nd place and $25 from Engineering Design Consultants.
In Chemistry, Sara Kleinsasser received honorable mention and Joshua Talmadge received 3rd place.
In Engineering, Emma Turbes received honorable mention, and Amanda Dietsch received 3rd place.
In Medicine and Health, Michelle Heimerman received honorable mention.
In Environmental Science, Christian Nanson and Steven Romero received honorable mention.
In Microbiology, Hakam Shara received honorable mention and Dahn Clemens received 1st place.
In Physics, Joe Fitzgerald received honorable mention and Daniel Elliston received 1st place. |

Faculty members Paulette Rourke and Tara Novotney each received the National Distinguished Teacher Award from the National Catholic Education Association. |

Seven students from Saint Cecilia have been recognized as KVNO Classical Kids.
An average of five students per year are in the UNO Middle School Honor Choir.
Several of our students annually participate in Opera Omaha productions. |

Saint Cecilia 8th graders competed in the Omaha District History Day competition at the Western Heritage Museum this Saturday. The following were winners and will compete in the Nebraska History Day competition on Sat., April 19, at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. Winners at this level would go on to Nationals. Congratulations to Michaela Bigsby who placed first in Historical Papers and is eligible to compete at National in Washington D.C. |

Congratulations to Joe Fitzgerald, KVNO’s Classical Kid, and a student at our school. Joe plays piano, organ, bass guitar, and bass viol. The following 2004 St Cecilia Cathedral Grade School graduates have been named Distinguished Scholars at Omaha Central High School: Patrick Kilcoyne, Ben McGuire, Jomarcell Nguyen, Samantha Sheridan and Jacquelyn Whelan. The following 2004 St. Cecilia Cathedral Grade School graduates have earned prestigious scholarships to further their education at the university level: Timothy Dunn, Michael Guinn, Patrick Kilcoyne, Ben McGuire, Jomarcell Nguyen, Samantha Sheridan, Jacquelyn Whelan. Ben McGuire - National Merit Finalist. Ben McGuire and Jacquelyn Whelan - GPAs in top 10% of school; Patrick Kilcoyne and Ben McGuire - Certificates for being Top Scholars in the State.
2008 Mount Michael High School graduates received the following honors: Andrew Jewel received the Creighton University Founders Scholarship, DePaul University Scholars’ Award, Loyola University Chicago Loyola Scholarship, Rockhurst University Dean’s Scholarship, Seton Hall University Presidential Scholarship, and plans to attend Xavier University where he was awarded the Presidential Scholarship. Matthew Kaefer plans to attend the University of Nebraska Lincoln where he was accepted into the Honors Program and was awarded the Canfield Scholarship.
V.J. And Angela Skutt Catholic High School Students Mary Kleinsasser, Mary Koneck Wilcox, and Cecilia Jensen all received Distinguished Honors in the Spring of 2008. Distinguished honors are awarded to students with a 4.0 g.p.a. or higher and no individual grade lower than a B-.

Dahn Clemens qualified for the Sate Geography Bee. He placed in the top 100 in the state out of more than 700 school champions. David Sudyka place 3rd at the District level Civic Oration Contest. |

Saint Cecilia Students competing in the Archdiocesan Math Contest placed as follows: 6th Grade Team, 1st place, Algebra Team, 2nd Place, and 7th Grade team, 3rd place. Individual awards were given to Jack Polerecky, first place, and Hannah Richstein, second place, in the 6th grade division; Emily Kirkvold, second place in the 7th grade division; and Anna Smith 3rd place in the 5th grade division.
Jack Countryman won the Henry Doorly Zoo Poster Contest for our school and the entire archdiocesan district. His poster is framed and is on display at the zoo for one year. |
